Jersey Fabric Information

Truly lovely quality jersey fabric with a high cotton content ensuring the fabric has a lovely touch and handle.

Created with only 8% Elastane meaning although the fabric does have stretch and will provide a fitted finish it is not overly stretchy and is a little easier to handle than ultra-stretch options.

We describe this as a: Mid Weight Jersey

At 250gsm, the fabric is at the mid to upper end of what we consider to be ‘mid-weight’ (a jersey at 300 gsm for example moves to being heavyweight). This touch of weight is lovely and counteracts the ever so slightly ‘flimsy feel’ we all know is inherent in a lighter weight jersey. With the weight and cotton content, the fabric has a lovely body and drape.

The jersey is ideal for dressmaking through to tops, t-shirts, jumpsuits, bodysuits and much more.

The Fabric – Ordering & Offers

To order simply add metres to your basket – we will cut as one continuous length. Half metres are available by entering 0.5 (half metre), 1.5 (one and a half metres) etc.

Sewing Your Jersey Fabric

Along with the actual Jersey Fabrics we are pleased to offer you all the ‘bits and bobs’ around the edges that make sewing Jersey easier and much more effective.

Here are some crucial items:

Needles – Stitch with . The ball of the needle parts the Jersey fibres rather than piercing them to help ensure the elastic quality remain intact.

Thread – Stitch with , this is a poly/cotton fibre. Alternatively, if you would prefer to work with a pure cotton option  will also stitch perfectly.

General Purpose Thread is included if you ‘add a matching thread above’.  

Interfacing –  are created especially for working with fabrics such as Jersey. They add a little more body to make sewing easier.
